Car Parts Industries contributes to EU research project

With ‘rEUman’, a consortium of Car Parts Industries (CPI) and 19 other partners has developed a project proposal for HORIZON Europe and successfully submitted it for sponsorship through the European Union’s most important funding programme for research and innovation. Its aim is to strengthen the future readiness and competitiveness of the European remanufacturing industry.

The rEUman project is an innovation action (IA) just recently launched under the umbrella of HORIZON Europe programme. It was designed as a joint initiative of Europe’s leading independent remanufacturer, BORG Automotive Reman and CPI, the remanufacturing branches of the BORG Automotive Group, and their partners and proposed for funding – with the aim to develop and demonstrate a novel paradigm of human-centred remanufacturing at factory and value chain level, e.g., to enable high regeneration rates and optimal traceability of resources incurred.

With a total funding of approximately €6.7 million, it will run until the end of August 2028 and concentrate on the automotive, white goods and optoelectronics sectors. BORG Automotive Reman and CPI receive €341,531 to support the validation of their use case within the scope of rEUman, which includes activities in the area of electromobility, such as electric motors, inverters and e-turbos.

The work has already begun: A kick-off meeting of the consortium, including companies, universities and associations, took place at Politecnico di Milano, the lead partner, in the beginning of October. Over the next six months, the project planning and definitions of objectives will be finalised, followed by an implementation phase of three and a half years.

CPI will provide important impetus for the project. “The fact that the rEUman project has been selected is a great endorsement of the work invested by all involved as well as of CPI and the excellent mix the company brings: decades of expertise in remanufacturing, promising application fields, cutting-edge technologies and digital tools,” explains Lorenzo Gaspari, Head of New Business Development at the BORG Automotive Group.

We expect our project contribution to deliver important results in areas such as process automation, electronics repair and digitalisation. We are already looking forward to helping shape the future of European remanufacturing!

Processes: Efficient core handling is the key to CPI’s remanufacturing process, ensuring each part is inspected and prepared for a new lifecycle.

Innovation: Applying new technologies enhances the regeneration rate and breathes new life into remanufactured components.
